Let’s all say it together: Mississippi State is playing football this week.
In fact, an SEC game will happen before you even go to work on Friday.
The endless speculation is nearly done (but, not quite), and this Saturday, the Bulldogs will run out onto the field, crowd cheering and cowbells clanging, and they will play Jackson State. Someone will win. We all will watch.
The game week festivities start in a few hours here in Starkville, as Dan Mullen will have the first of his weekly Monday press conferences at 1 p.m. Hopefully, we’ll catch up with a few players and assistant coaches, as well. Keep it tuned here for updates and on Twitter (@bobcarskadon) for up-to-the-second news, notes and quotes.
We’ll have more opportunities to chat with players and coaches on Tuesday and Wednesday as they get ready to open the season.
Scott Stricklin will be coming to you ears, as well, as MSU’s athletic director is hosting the second edition of “Hail State with Scott Stricklin” on Tuesday evening. SEC commissioner Mike Slive is one of his guests, so I’d recommend tuning in.
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention that Bo Hemphill and Mike Richey of the Bulldog Club will be with Stricklin for the live broadcast at Park Heights in Tupelo. The show starts at 7 p.m. and a live stream will play on HailState.com
And hey, while I’m thinking about it, we’ve got broadcast info for Saturday’s game, too, if you can’t make it to campus. The season-opening bout will kickoff at 6 p.m. and be televised by Fox Sports South, Southwest and SUN Sports, as well as ESPN3 and ESPN Gameplan.
If you’re tuning in via radio, Sirius 113 and XM 196 will keep you updated.
Going forward, I’ll have a predictions column coming later this morning here on the HailState Beat, so if you need a good laugh, my feeble attempts at foretelling the future of Bulldog football might make you chuckle. Keep an eye out for that, as well as full coverage of the press conference later this afternoon.
