Mississippi State announced this morning the hiring of a new assistant baseball coach as Jacob Wells will leave his post as the head coach at Marion Military Institute to become MSU’s coordinator of baseball camps. The 29-year-old Wells will also serve as a volunteer coach focusing on catchers and hitting.
In the full story at HailState.com, MSU head coach John Cohen said he is thrilled to add someone of this caliber to his staff.
“Coach Wells has done an incredible job at Marion Military Institute,” Cohen said. “He has earned the respect of the baseball community with his work ethic, perseverance and his creativity. I believe he is one of the great young coaches in the country.”
Wells spent five years on the coaching staff at Marion Military Institute, a military college in Alabama. He spent his first three seasons as an assistant, before being promoted to head coach and serving in that role the previous two years.
Wells replaces Nick Mingione, who was promoted to fill the vacancy left by assistant coach Lane Burroughs, who became the new head coach at Northwestern State.
