Got any plans for the weekend? Over the next 24-ish hours at Mississippi State you can take in a soccer game, a season-opening volleyball match, a movie in Davis Wade Stadium, get Cam Lawrence’s autograph, take a picture with the Egg Bowl, and if you’re a student, you can even get your season tickets.
And after that, you’ve still got Saturday night to have a nice dinner. Or maybe a nap after all that running around.
Let’s tackle this in chronological order.
The MSU Student Association is hosting “Game Night” tonight, which includes Jenny Hazelwood and the volleyball team hosting Jackson State in the season-opener at 7 p.m. and Neil MacDonald’s soccer squad facing off against Tennessee Martin, also at 7.
The volleyball team has two more matches on Saturday, at 12:30 and 7, while the soccer team returns to action Sunday at 2.
First thing in the morning on Saturday, student football tickets go on sale outside of Davis Wade. The ticket windows open at 8 a.m., while the lines will begin forming at 6 a.m. Dan Mullen has been known to stop by, sometimes even with a breakfast food or two, so maybe the students will get lucky again this year.
Of course, one of the big events is the annual Fan Day held at the Palmeiro Center, giving fans an opportunity to meet the Bulldogs and get stuff signed. Foreheads, babies, hats, whatever. Though the easiest solution is to grab one of the free schedule posters MSU will be giving out.
Doors open at noon, and players and coaches will be available for autographs from 1-3 p.m. The famed Egg Bowl trophy – which by the slimmest of coincidences will have been in MSU’s possession for 1,000 days on Saturday – will be on display as well, just waiting for you to come snap a picture with it.
The good news: everything above is like the middle square in Bingo: free.
