So, if you took the weekend to step away from Twitter and the interwebs for a couple days, you probably had a nice break, but you missed a bunch as Mississippi State had over half a dozen teams in action.
Notably, John Cohen’s Diamond Dawgs opened their season in style with 4-straight victories over Portland at Dudy Noble. (I’ll have more from that on the blog soon.)
There plenty of good statistical nuggets to find, so I’ll leave with my general impressions.
MSU’s pitching depth is outstanding, getting through four-straight games without blinking an eye and only giving up three runs, with arms to spare for Tuesday’s game against Grambling State. The offense was equally impressive, and while State only scored two against Portland’s ace, the Bulldog bats were hot all weekend, three swings even resulting in home runs.
On the other diamond, Vann Stuedeman and the softball Bulldogs had a successful weekend, including two wins on Sunday in a doubleheader.
On the court, goings were a little tougher, as the men’s team dropped a tough one to LSU Saturday on the road and Vic Schaefer’s Bulldogs fell to LSU at home on Sunday.
On a different type of court, the men’s tennis team had some success on Saturday taking down 15th-ranked Texas A&M, though they fell to Ole Miss on Sunday. Both matches were a part of the ITA National Indoor Championships, so neither counts toward the SEC record.
Back in Starkville, the women’s tennis team dropped a non-conference match with Oklahoma State.
Going all the way back to Friday, the track and field team had four competitors place in the Top 10 at the LSU Twilight Meet.

I guess you would be referring to the nightmare that started with Renardo Sidney and the “Hawaiian Punch” in Dec, 2010 and led us up to today? Well have heart, the program should progress to “just a bad dream” status by the end of this season/beginning of next season.
