The Notebook: 9-11

So, How Was Your Day?
Happy Shump Day, everybody. I hope you saw the picture of Ashton Shumpert MSU put out today. It was lovely.

Otherwise, there were a few odds and ends throughout the day, including a particularly informative weekly update from Scott Stricklin. Of note, stadium gates at Davis Wade will now open two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff, rather than the three hour window given this past weekend.

In football news, Dan Mullen’s time on the SEC teleconference was mostly a repeat of Monday’s information, though he did broach one interesting subject I had mostly forgotten about. Melvin Smith, a defensive assistant for Auburn, had of course been with Mullen and MSU from 2009-12. Mullen says they change the signals every year with just such a thing in mind, so he doesn’t expect it to be an issue.

Otherwise, Mullen talked about the differences in Auburn’s offense compared to years past, saying this version is a bit more run-heavy, hit-you-in-the-mouth style.

Tomorrowland

Final preparations are being made for Auburn, and the last time we’ll hear from Mullen is tomorrow night from Dawg Talk.

At the moment, I’m sitting in on the defensive staff’s film meeting, and I hope to have a story about this out tomorrow.
