At 1 p.m. today, Dan Mullen will meet with the media for his weekly monday press conference in advance of his Bulldogs hosting LSU this weekend. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Live updates from the press conference to follow.
Ha, Mullen deadpans the open, “Boy, nothing new. Haven’t seen the guys in a little while.”
Players were all gone for the weekend.
Injury-wise, Mullen expects everyone healthy for LSU. Includes Tyler Russell and Ferlando Bohanna, I’d assume.
On potential ‘rust’ for Russell returning, says having so much experience makes it less of an issue. “Obviously, I’d see it a lot differently if he hadn’t played in so many big games.”
Mullen on LSU-UGA: “I don’t know that watching that game is encouraging. You look at the explosiveness of LSU’s offense, we’re gonna have to score some points.”
Ha. Questioner brings up Les Miles eating grass. Mullen interrupts with a smile, “We all have our quirks … I chew my gameplan sometimes.”
On players like Jameon Lewis, Mullen says it gives offense some extra versatility. “We have several guys on our team who were high school quarterbacks and that brings some versatility.”
Mullen on LSU’s offense: “You load up to stop the run, then all of the sudden you’re 1-on-1 with a bunch of NFL players on the perimeter.”
More on Russell, Mullen says, “When he’s able to laugh and joke and be serious about preparation at the same time, that’s how you know he’s back to being Tyler.”
Dan Mullen on the quarterback position this weekend: “We’ll figure it out as we go.” Says they’ll balance out reps in practice.
On placekickers, Mullen says plan is same as every week. They chart the kicks in practice, who ever has the best week plays.
Asked about Jamerson Love, technically MSU’s most experienced corner, Mullen says his speed and relative experience is helpful, but just as important is the example and leadership he provides to younger corners.
Bit of a non-football topic, Mullen is talking about his and team’s role in public eye. “I tell our guys all the time, you’re role models, like it or not.”
