At 1 p.m. today, Dan Mullen will meet with local reporters for his weekly press conference. After an off week over the weekend, Mississippi State hosts Auburn on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Live updates to follow.
And he’s here.
“Excited to get back into a game week routine,” he says. Particularly happy to have a home game for the first time in a while.
“Huge game for us,” Mullen says of this weekend. Calls Auburn a very good, very talented team. “Excellent, excellent football team.”
Mullen mentioned they’ve got a ton of talent, as well. MSU started preparing exclusively for Auburn later in the off week last week. Got going on Thursday to “get a jump start.”
“They’ve got a great defensive front,” Mullen says of Auburn. Says there are several notable players, particularly on the defensive line. he’s impressed by what they call shutdown corners, as well.
“If you can cover and you can get pressure on the line, you’re gonna be pretty salty on D,” he says.
On AU QB Sean White, Mullen said he seems to have more confidence and it’s clear that he’s been in the system and knows the offense well now in his second year.
“Good decision maker, accurate passer, very willing runner,” he says. “Might not be the game breaker like some guys are.”
Specifically, Mullen actually compared him to Dak Prescott as a runner, saying he has the ability to get tough yards on the ground.
On the injury front, it sounds like MSU wants to ease cornerback Cedric Jiles back into things as he returns from a broken arm in the preseason, but he’s expected to play this week. Big news for the secondary to get a senior back. Today will be the first full practice back for Jiles, so they’ll see how he does the next few days and go from there.
